Emilia Kukkala and Pontus Purokuru tell about their book "Guard Dogs of Class Hegemony: How Finnish Reporters Help the Elite Stay Elite".
Reporters most often give voices to those who possess the most wealth and influence. The media prefers to preserve the status quo rather than change it. There is a large number of people in Finland whose experiences the media does not reach or represent in any way.
Kukkala and Purokuru's book reveals the undemocratic working environments of Finnish editing offices, what the everyday racism of reporters is like and how public discussion is dominated by an illusion of middle class unity. The question of desirable journalism is most of all a question of desirable society. Reporters should not be asking what journalism ought to be like but what kind of a society they want to build and support.

Disturbances is an open series of lectures and discussions at the crossroads of society, philosophy, history, economy and resistance.
We are already aware that we can not live as before, but we do not know what the future holds. Others are stuck in the past, but we only want to understand it. Even a small disturbance of an initial condition can lead a system into a completely different state.
