Anton Kalakin is known as Anton 69 in the Irkutsk punk community. He works odd jobs: most recently, he worked as a security guard and repaired boats. He participated in solidarity events, attended punk concerts, helped homeless animals, was interested in local history, and ran a public page about the history of Irkutsk. He lived with his mother.
In April 2025, security forces raided their apartment in Irkutsk and confiscated Anton's equipment. Soon after, the anti-fascist was charged with two counts of "justifying terrorism" (Part 2 of Article 205.2 of the Russian Criminal Code). In May, he was added to the list of "extremists and terrorists".
Anton left his first comment on the Telegram channel "Irkutsk Blog" in July 2024. Under a post about Igor Kobzev, Irkutsk Oblast Governor, who considers war spending a "higher priority" than school renovations, he wrote: "Without trial or investigation, hang him on a lamppost along Karl Marx Street!" The second comment was about the prisoner exchange: "Azov soldiers, defenders of Mariupol and other regions of Ukraine. These are the ones who need to be released!" Anton wrote these words on the channel of Ukrainian video blogger Vladimir Zolkin last October.
The case against the anti-fascist began in the Second District Military Court in Chita on October 22, and the verdict was announced the following day. Judge Oleg Yugolainin sentenced Anton to 5.5 years in prison for each comment. The final sentence, after adding up the sentences, was six years in a general regime penal colony.
Anton fully admitted his guilt: he hadn't initially sought publicity and had hoped for a fine. However, Judge Yugolainin ruled that the case contained two aggravating circumstances that warranted imprisonment of the anti-fascist: "motivated by political hatred and enmity" and "committing the crime during mobilization." In addition, the judge ordered to destroy a notebook sheet, a leaflet, and a cardboard cutout in the shape of the Ukrainian coat of arms found in Anton's home.
After the verdict was announced, the anti-fascist was taken into custody in the courtroom (he had previously been under a travel restriction order). Anton is currently being held in Irkutsk's Pretrial Detention Center No. 1. Human rights activist Valery Teterin is preparing an appeal. The investigative report contains a serious error: on page five of the report, the accused's last name is listed as "Morozova." The Second District Military Court convicted a woman with that last name in April 2025, also under the article on "justifying terrorism," also for an online comment.
Anton's mother volunteered at the Levada Center. After her son's arrest, the organization ceased contact with her. Before the criminal prosecution, Anton supported his mother financially. Now they both need support.
It's important to write letters to Anton so he doesn't feel alone.
