Ilya Shakursky: letter to a friend

Dear friends, welcome to our latest update!
This is long overdue. As usual, we start with (relatively) good news. Krasnoyarsk anarchists Danil Ivanov and Ilya Vinogradov were given 5 and 3.5 years probational sentences respectively. They were accused of ”robbery”, for paying a visit to a former comrade who had been seen hanging out with Nazis. Congratulations to Danil and Ilya for dodging prison!
On the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the first anti-authoritarian international, international meetings are being prepared in the Swiss Jura mountains. They will take place from July 19 to 23, 2023.
You may read the full information on the website.
As part of the gathering, we would like to announce two events, organised by Autonomous Action and Anarchist Black Cross – Moscow.
The antifascist movement emerged in Russia in the late 1990s – early 2000s as a response to neo-Nazis’ violence: back then, the far-right was attacking migrants, homeless people, punks and anyone they didn’t like almost daily. Over the past couple of decades, the movement has changed significantly, having gone through murders of its participants, numerous criminal cases and now a split due to the war.
We publish an article from Crimethinc.
On April 19, 2023, three anarchists were killed in battle near Bakhmut: an American named Cooper Andrews, an Irishman named Finbar Cafferkey, and a Russian named Dmitry Petrov, known to us until then as Ilya Leshy. People in our networks have shared undertakings with all three of these comrades over the years.
This update was provided by ABC-Moscow for German Das Antifaschistische Infoblatt issue 138. This version has some minor updates with numbers mentioned.
Eastern Siberia is a harsh and inhospitable region, which was a place of imprisonment and exile for socialists and anarchists under the tsarist regime. As you can see, history repeats itself.
Here is how the Anarchist Black Cross of Irkutsk sums up the year of its work. It actually coincided with the anniversary of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine:
18th of March marks 4 years since our comrade, an Italian anarchist, şehîd Tekoşer Piling (Lorenzo "Orso" Orsetti) fell in battle in Baghuz al-Fawqani. Lorenzo was fighting ISIS alongside Kurdish and Arab comrades, defending the revolution of Northeast Syria. It is an honour for us to share with you all this short brochure with last journals and writings of ṣehîd Tekoṣer. We treasure his words and we hope they can bring you as much inspiration as they brought to us.
Al-Baghuz Fawqani was last stronghold of ISIS.
This blog has been retracted as it included erroneus results of an investigation due to technical issues with the Facebook. Eventually all the contents had to be removed because they could gain access to some personal information.
Apologies to everyone involved.
Antti Rautiainen
The revolutionary events at the beginning of the last century, and the following civil war, did not leave Siberia unaffected. One of the key, dramatic events at that time unfolded in Irkutsk; as well as the December battles of 1917 and 1919, the partisan war, foreign intervention, and the arrest and execution of the White movement’s leader, A.V. Kolchak.
The main forces of the civil war are considered to be the “Whites” and the “Reds”, but little is said about the participation of anarchists in the fight for freedom.
Alfredo Cospito is an Italian anarchist political prisoner, a member of the "Informal Anarchist Federation" (IFA).
Cospito was convicted for the attack on Roberto Adinolfi, general director of Ansaldo Nucleare, and was later sentenced to life imprisonment for the events of the night of June 2 to 3, 2006 at the Carabinieri Cadet School in Fossano (Cuneo), where two small bombs exploded, causing no death or injuries and no serious damage.
Anarchist anti-war action and the growing nationalism in Russia
Interview with Portuguese Mapa - Jornal de Informação Critica -paper, published in issue 35. Interview by Pedro Morais.
The Anarchist Black Cross of Moscow, established in 2003, has supported Russian anarchist and anti-fascist prisoners continuously for almost 20 years.
During September, we have been raising funds to continue media operations of Autonomous Action in increasingly difficult circumstances in Russia. We have received lots of donations, and we are very grateful to everyone who has supported us this far!
We announced before, that we have to halt our crowdfunding prematurely in 15th of September, but documents of FireFund were eventually accepted by their payment provider, so our crowdfunding will continue as before. We are collecting funds for daily maintenance of our social media. We are spreading news about anarchist activities in Russia in daily basis, as well as news on repression and anti-war protests. We should reach our goal of 3000 euros until 1st of October, this far we have raised 1700 euros and 1300 euros are missing. Unless we reach our goal, we get no money.
Resistance committee announced death of anarchist Sergey Petrovichev, also known with names "Rubin" and "Vasili Volgin". Sergey was Russian who fought for Ukrainian people. In Russia he participated in "Volnitsa" organisation, later he embraced libertarian views. Since 2014 Sergey has lived in Ukraine. He was taking part in armed resistance against Putinist aggression.
Interview was made by German anarcho-pacifist paper Graswurzelrevolution, and is published in the new issue of the paper in German. English translation by ABC Moscow.

Anarchist group ANA Regensburg hosted my online-presentation on 16th of May 2024, in which I discussed tactics of anti-war activism in Russia, and reasons why the anti-war movement has not been able to make an impact to change the course of events yet. Cases of anarchists repressed for anti-war...
